About the artist
Joe Scalea is an artist living in Charleston, South Carolina. When not painting, he is a practicing transplant surgeon at an academic medical center. Joe uses painting as a welcome distraction from the intensity of surgery and the enormity of managing life and death.
Joe grew up in Virginia, but education and training took him to Maryland, Boston, and Wisconsin. Today he is loving life in the Lowcountry with his children and wife, Meghan, who helps run the art business.
